Adventure Maternity Sessions are one of the most memorable experiences a family can have! Recently, I had the pleasure of capturing a beautiful adventure maternity session at Lake McDonald. This family of three was growing to four, and it was a special moment to capture. Unfortunately, I had forgotten my memory card (a rookie mistake I know), but we were able to plan a reshoot at the river a few days later. To make the session even more memorable, a certain friendly neighborhood superhero made an appearance!
How the heck did I forget one of the most important items you might ask? Heading into this family session, I was overwhelmed with having a new sitter for my own kids and left the house frazzled. I almost left my freaking camera! I managed to run in and grab it right before I was leaving the driveway. Haha! Halfway to the lake, I reach over to make sure I had my battery for my camera, but had forgotten something equally as important…The freaking memory card! I had to turn back and drive 15 minutes all the way back to my house to get it.
When I finally arrived at the shoot, little Warren had fallen asleep and was understandably cranky when he woke up. He indeed was not interested in having a photoshoot. Haha! Alex tried bribing him with jelly beans, but nothing was working for him. We did the best we could and got a handful of images on the dock with some awesome skies. We managed to get some great shots despite the grumps and the quickly disappearing sunlight, but agreed that a reshoot later in the week would be best for us to capture the perfect pictures for this growing family of three, soon to be four.
We chatted over the weekend and decided Sunday would be our best chance to reshoot this session, as this little bean is due to make her appearance this week! We met around 7 hoping for a colorful Montana sunset…we got storm clouds. Haha!
Determined to make the best of Warren’s newfound chipperness, We walked along the shore and took in the beautiful scenery with a really laid-back approach. Rather than jumping right in to posing them, I felt it was best to just let them all get used to the atmosphere. I followed loosely as I normally do and snapped a few shots here and there. Eventually, Alex coaxed Warren into some of the posed images she and I had discussed prior and they were all turning out so good. We spent about 15 minutes on posed images, pulling inspiration from Pinterest and making them our own. And Warren was much happier and more willing to cooperate this time. Haha! I think the promise of a surprise really did the trick.
It’s so sweet looking through this gallery and seeing their personalities unfolding in front of the camera. And the sweet fur baby running along right there with them definitely helped add to the cuteness.
As promised, Alex brought a surprise for Warren, which turned out to be none other than Spiderman!
I was able to capture some amazing photos of Warren wearing his Spiderman suit and playing with his parents. He was swinging his webs, striking poses, and playing with his mom and dad. It made for a truly unique family session that was full of laughter and smiles. It’s a reminder of why I still love being a family photographer. To be able to capture moments like these and preserve them forever is an incredible gift.
The George family will have these beautiful memories of their maternity session to look back on and cherish forever. I can not wait to welcome the newest member!
